The difference in altitude between source and city is only 11.2 metres over 50 km. The gradient can be as low as 0.1 m/km in the forest of Remoulins. The aqueduct functioned for about 5 centuries, but the water discharge was eventually reduced to 10000 m3/day due to carbonate deposition.
